The day after the day before.... (2005-07-08 - 10:49 a.m.)

I am always impressed and somewhat mystified by the resilience of people. Even more so by the resilience of the British people!

On September 11th, 2001 I was still back in South Africa and I can remember a fair amount of panic that circulated around the office as we watched the planes on their suicide mission. Perhaps it was that this new form of terror hadn't been experienced on such a grand scale before or maybe it was just that as South Africans, we always assumed that the terror was within our own borders.

Yesterday I watched in horror as London came under a similar attack, but the response was somewhat different. People were shocked and hurt but they were also proud and resolute that this was not going to become another day that would change the way the world works. I am in awe of a nation that can, after being so brutally challenged, stand up, brush itself off and face the terrors head on.

My heartfelt condolences to those who have been injured and to the families and friends who have lost loved ones.
